Lead a Global Italian Network
Why Join our Team
United Italian Societies (UIS) is the principal non-profit platform for Italians studying, researching and working outside Italy. From Oxford to Madrid, from PhD candidates in Stockholm to Napolitan entrepreneurs in New York, we weave individual campus chapters into a single, recognisable voice. Our programmes: academic symposia, industry round-tables, research initiatives, cultural projects, policymaking and career support, give Italians abroad a way to stay connected with one another and with the institutions, companies and leaders that shape Italy itself.
Taking a volunteer leadership post at UIS means joining a respected organisation that partners daily with senior executives, diplomats and universities, yet remains entirely powered by students and young professionals who give just a few hours a week.
Strategic Seat at a Growing Table
Help shape strategy alongside our global leadership, influencing decisions that reach over 50 university societies in 8 countries. Your ideas move quickly—from proposal to execution—in a high-trust, fast-learning environment rarely open to early-career professionals.
Hard Metrics, Clear Achievements
No vague "involvement." Whether you lead a symposium or build a new support programme, your work is tracked, published, and highlighted—showcasing measurable results that recruiters and institutions value.
Access to Italy’s Top Network Abroad
Expect conversations with CEOs, former prime ministers, and leaders in tech, consulting, and the arts. Our alumni sit at McKinsey, Goldman Sachs, Google, and European institutions—you collaborate with them, not just meet them.
Mission With Tangible Impact
Every initiative strengthens the global Italian network—building bridges among Italians abroad and back home. Your work drives real change for students and professionals who will reinvest in Italy.
Balanced Commitment
UIS roles are designed for flexibility—around 4 hours per week. We prioritise your studies and career, and fully accommodate exams, internships, and personal milestones.

Our Four-Stage Selection Journey
Securing a leadership position at United Italian Societies is intentionally demanding. Our chapters operate in eight countries and rely on a small core of volunteers who can move ideas to execution with limited time. Each cycle we open only a handful of seats and admit candidates whose mix of skill, initiative and curiosity allows them to thrive in that environment. The pathway from application to onboarding therefore follows four deliberate stages, each designed to test a different dimension of fit while giving you a transparent view of what working with us is really like.

Submit Your Online Application
Fill out a short web form including your CV, contact details, and two concise essays—one on your motivation for applying, the other on how you'll fit this into your weekly schedule.
Your answers are reviewed by a committee of local and global team members, who select profiles that already show initiative, self-awareness, and a deep understanding of our mission.

Show Us How You Think
A 30-minute interview with your chapter’s Country Manager or lead. You’ll discuss your practical experience—whether in budgeting, events, mentoring, or content creation—and how you'd solve real UIS challenges.
We also explore how you'll balance this 4h/week commitment with exams, internships, and life outside UIS.

Aligning Values and Long-Term Goals
A second 30-minute interview with a member of the global team. This is where we explore your long-term motivations, cultural alignment, and vision for your role in our global network.
We’ll also introduce our tech stack—including AI-powered tools—and check your readiness to lead in a modern, digital-first nonprofit.

Start Your Leadership Journey within UIS
Within a week, you’ll receive your outcome. If selected, you’ll begin a streamlined onboarding sprint: meet your peers, set up your digital tools, and receive early mentorship to help you thrive in your new role.
From day one, you're part of a global leadership team shaping how Italians abroad connect with each other and back home.
