Meet the Heartbeat of Our Community

United Italian Societies (UIS) is a student-led association founded by Italian university students studying abroad. Our organizational structure emphasizes democratic representation, efficient decision-making, and a continuous flow of ideas, feedback, and suggestions among young Italian minds. Our governance is based on four main organs: Board of Directors, Advisory Board UIS Council and our Executive. Meet the people volunteering to promote, support and connect Italian students abroad.

Our Governance

Our organizational structure emphasizes democratic representation, efficient decision-making, and a continuous flow of ideas, feedback, and suggestions among young Italian minds. For this reason, the governance of UIS is based on four main bodies. Each of them has a specific function that is crucial to the success of our organization

Advisory Board

To instill expertise, UIS benefits from the guidance of an advisory board. This committee, made up of experienced professionals, offers invaluable perspectives on decisions and activities across the network. Meeting twice a year, the Advisory Board actively interacts with students, discussing ways to improve UIS and its services.

Board of Directors

The Board of Director is a committee of students that have been essential in setting the foundations of the organisation. The BoD sets the vision and goals for UIS.

UIS Council

The UIS Council is made up of a country manager for each UIS country. Each country manager is voted by that country’s Presidents Committee, which is the meeting of all the presidents of the individual Italian societies within that country, where each president is elected by the members of their respective Italian society.

Executive

The executive team is the driving force behind United Italian Societies. It is made up of Italian students who volunteer their time, their skills and their talents for the improvement of our organization. Managed by the CEO and CFO, the executive is divided into different activities to support UIS initiatives, each followed by a Global head and supported by Local Heads in each country, together with various officers.

Virginia Stagni
Virginia is Chief Marketing Officer at Adecco Group Italy. Virginia was Head of Business Development at the Financial Times, where she has worked since 2017. Virginia is the founder of FT Talent Programme at the Financial Times and she became the youngest manager at the Financial Times in 130 years.
Nathalie Tocci
Nathalie Tocci is Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, part-time professor at the School of Transnational Governance (European University Institute), Honorary Professor at the University of Tübingen and independent non-executive director of Acea. She has been Special Advisor to EU High Representatives Federica Mogherini and Josep Borrell. In that capacity, she wrote the European Global Strategy and worked on its implementation. She is Europe’s Futures fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences (Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen, IWM). She was Pierre Keller Visiting Professor at the Harvard Kennedy School and, prior to joining Acea, she was independent board member first of Edison and then of Eni. She has held research positions at the Centre for European Policy Studies, Brussels, the Transatlantic Academy, Washington, the European University Institute, Florence, and has taught at the College of Europe, Bruges.
Mirja Cartia d'Asero
Mirja Cartia d’Asero is Chief Executive Officer of Il Sole 24 Ore S.p.A. since 27 April 2022 and already a member of the Board of Directors since 23 July 2020. She is currently Independent Director of TECMA Solutions S.p.A., of ZURICH Investments Life S.p.A. - where she also holds the position of Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and Member of the Internal Control and Risks Committee - and of ITALMOBILIARE S.p.A., where she is also Chairman of the Control and Risks Committee, Member of the Sustainability Committee and Member of the Related Parties Committee. She is Board Member of Ansa press agency. She is a member of the General Council of FIEG - Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers, as well as Managing Director of the Publishing Reform Commission.
